Chapter Thirteen

~ Barrett ~

Not grabbing Pet all day today had been fucking torture. As usual, I was nearby while we exchanged classes. She wore the same uniform as always. It shouldn’t be remotely alluring. Somehow, after feeling her curves against me and almost coming in my pants when she’d orgasmed last night, she was a wet dream personified.

God knew, I’d had one of those last night. If she’d heard me through the wall, it was one-hundred percent because of the vivid dreams. And maybe some jacking off. Let’s not get crazy. After experiencing my Pet, there was no way, I wasn’t fantasizing even more about her.

I placated my libido with the promise of someday soon. Someday soon, I would have Pet in my bed. Someday soon, everyone would know she was mine.

“So where are we going?” she asked now.

We were in my car again, driving toward Grand Rapids, which was a long trip on a school night, but we’d left right after classes. We’d stopped home just long enough to change, and Pet had been doing her homework on the trip. Because that was her. God forbid she miss an assignment.

“The GRAM has a special American Impressionism exhibit I thought you might like.”

“Oh,” she said, the syllable a little confused. I had no idea if she liked art at all, sow her reaction wasn’t too unexpected.

I grinned. “Mostly, I thought we could hold hands and I can have you in my arms while we look at pieces of art and make mundane observations about them like we really know something about the stuff. Then we can grab dinner or a movie or both before I drive us home.”

“Now, I understand. Will anyone even know if we skip the GRAM?”

“We could go to the public museum instead. They have a planetarium.”

“That I would love. Stars and planets are super cool.”

And I felt as if I’d hit the jackpot of ideas.

Pet slid away her book, then turns slightly sideways on her seat while she leaned against the back and looked at me. Our fingers were twined on my thigh, and the quiet intimacy between us felt exactly right.

“I hated pretending today,” she said, chipping at the contentment I’d felt.

“It’s not for that much longer. Five weeks.”

“We’ll be done with school then, but…”

“What?”

“Our parents will still be our parents.”

“Yeah. I’m not real close to my dad, in case you haven’t noticed.”

“I am close to my mom. Really close. She’s a little oblivious sometimes, but she’s good hearted and she changed everything in her life for me when we moved here. She transferred jobs, set up a new house and left behind her friends and our memories of my dad—at least the physical reminders of him.”

“Why did you move here? I mean…” I huffed a laugh. “I am fucking glad you did, don’t get me wrong. It’s just strange, I guess, that you left everything behind to come here.”

“I got a scholarship to Wellston. Things were… Sometimes dicey back in Chicago. There were some guys who harassed me—older than me, already in high school.
